BIOGRAPHY: Came to Coshocton about 1818 with her parents. According tothe Coshocton County Chapter of the Ohio Genealogical Society, this puts her in the category of "First Families of Coshocton County." At her death she had 60 grandchildren, 78 great grandchildren and 2 gggrandchildren. Eight sons and one son-in-law served in the Civil War. Abigail Jennings was born near Rumney, Virginia, May 27 , 1810 died at her home in Tuscarawas township, Coshocton County, Ohio March 18, 1898 aged 87 years, 9 months and 21 days. She was the oldest child of Lewis and Rachel Powelson and with her parents moved to Ohio in 1818, she being about 8 years old. This long journey was made on horseback, mostly through an almost trackless and unbroken forest, the mother carrying her then youngest child, Abraham on her lap or in her arms, while Abigail rode behind her on the same horse.
