NOTE: The orginial census record looks as though their could be a "3" in the first line, but it is very hard to read. About 1/2 of it is faded out. The transcribed verion that you will find on the Wood Co., WV GENWEB site does not give any males in the "Under 10" age bracket. If this is the case the 3 children would be John, William and possibly a son by the name of Henry. There is a Henry Mankins that married a Rosanna Otis that I am investgating, but no proof that William is the father as of April 2005.

There is this one John CASEY in Wood County, Virginia and later in Meigs Co., Ohio that COULD be a brother in-law to William Mankin(s). John Casey was married Sally UHL. Jacob UHL married Catherine Dye. Catharine's Mother was Jane MANKIN, who is believed to be the sister to William Mankins

Wm. MANKINS, by W. D. BAILEY, final.

According to Nellie Gard, author of the Ellenwood Clan, William W. Mankins was born in Maryland, migrated to Virginia. Family records show that he married Elizabeth Cazy in Richmond, Va. and removed to Ohio before 1820. William was born in 1780 and Elizabeth in 1783.
Nellie also states that they probably rented land in Warren Township where William later purchased land in Ministrerial Section #29 (actually a 99 year lease until 1973). William and his sons owned adjoining farms north of the back of the old COLE homestead near Briggs Station and not far from the Ohio River. William Mankins died 1- 11- 1870 of old age, aged 89 yrs and 8 months says the report by Dr. Shaw. Elizabeth died in January 1874 aged 91 years. Sons John, William F. and Francis Franklin lived in Dunham Townhip in 1881, but Joseph removed ca. 1855 to Henry County, Illinois.
