Richard Haven was called "Richard Jr." in the birth records of his first 6 children (from 1645 to 1655) and he is called "Richard Sr." in the records of his last 6 children (born from 1656 to 1667). This seems to indicate that Richard Haven's father (also Richard) was still living (probably in England) until 1655. Richard Haven's place of settlement was in the western part of Lynn (now Saugus). He settled there in 1645. The first record found in Lynn was in 1650. Richard Haven was born about 1625, according to a deposition on 17 Jul 1666 when he stated his age as "about 40 odd years".

In June of 1661, Richard Haven was fined for a breach of the peace. In November and December of 1661, he served on a jury of trials. In June of 1662, he was sued for striking Isaac Ramsdell and also for striking John Longley (or Langley). The Longley and Haven families lived next to each other and had frequent altercations. In February of 1662, William Longley sued Richard Haven for coming on his land . . . and abusing him in words and deeds. Mary Longley, aged about 19 years, deposed: "Last summer, Richard Haven came to me and asked me where my father was; and I perceived that he was angry by his countenance and by his carriage. I told him I would not tell him where he was, and Haven said I will find him and went over the rails into our lot. I saw him break off a great cudgel and go at great pace up the lot. Fearing he would do my father some mischief, I followed him, and then I met Daniel Mathews and requested him to go with me til we came near to my father sowing turnip seed in his own lot. Haven said to my father why dids't thou lame my hogs,' and I saw Haven take my father by the beard and said "I could find in my heart to spill thy heart blood upon the ground thou rogue thou.' My father answered . . . 'the Lord will avenge my wrongs one day,' and the said Haven said "Hark how he cries aloud to his God, and foames at the mouth'".

On 26 February 1677, Richard Haven, Sr. and Richard Haven, Jr., took the Oath of Fidelity and were sworn before Capt. Thomas Marshall of Lynn. On 13 June 1681, John Wastol (or Westol) of Saybrook, Conn. conveyed "to the children of his loving kinsman Richard Haven of Lynn, carpenter, 3000 acres of land in Habron, Conn. which he had by the will of Joshua Sachem; particularly 1000 acres to John, son of said Richard." Signed with marks and seal of John Wastol and Susanna his wife and recorded by the town clerk of Hebron in 1718, Book 1 page 173. "It does not appear by the records that those lands were ever conveyed by any of the children. But "in Book 2, page 93, it states that in 1726, Jonathan Page as heir of Richard Haven had 35 acres set off to him from "Haven's right; it being for land lost."

On 18 April 1691, Richard Haven, Sr., name was on a list of Freemen in Lynn.

Richard Haven's will, written 21 May 1701, proved 14 Jun 1703, Essex County, MA, mentions my son John Haven, son Nathaniel Haven, grandson Joseph, the son of my son Richard Haven, deceased, my son Moses Haven, my daughter Hannah Goodell, my son-in-law John Tarbox, my daughter Sarah Whitney, grandson Westol Cogswell, granddaughter Hannah Parker, my granddaughter Hannah Goodell; son Moses Haven executor.
