Biography of Isaac S. Wade by Robert Hurlbut, 1973.
Marriage certificate for Isaac Wade and Elizabeth Headley, Noble Co., OH.
Wade Family Bible record; recorded marriage, children.
Isaac came to Brown County in his youth from Ohio. He had been reared by a sister after his mother died in his early childhood. He learned harness-making and subsequently shoemaking in Noble County, OH. He moved to Brown County in 1861 and worked at shoemaking for about 10 years before he moved to Needmore and opened a store. He was appointed Postmaster in 1872. Isaac and Elizabeth owned Oak Farm in Brown County, near Needmore, where they raised their children. Isaac operated a harness making shop and general store. He retired in 1905, and he and Elizabeth moved to Seattle to be near their daughter Nellie Hurlbut. He was a member of the Masonic fraternity, an Odd Fellow, and an active Republican. Although he was raised as a Quaker, in later years he was a Methodist. Isaac and Elizabeth helped raise Elizabeth's sister Sarah's son after she died. Elizabeth died of old age, according to Dr. Willis. Isaac was blind in his old age, possibly as a consequence of diabetes.
