Dennis received a license from the city of Wheeling to operate a coffee house or bar in June 1865, shortly before his death.

DNA testing of a descendant of Dennis Sullivan delivered a match with a woman whose mother was from near Castleisland, County Kerry. They have O'Sullivan ancestry as well.

The name O'SULLIVAN, or Ó Súilleabháin, derives from the Irish words, súil, (eye), and abháin, (one). Ó Súillabháin therefore is descendant of the one-eyed or descendant of the hawk-eyed. The clan historically has been a powerful regional force in Munster, the southwest province of Ireland. O'Sullivan is the 3rd most common name in Ireland.
