We understand that Mr. Fonda is engaged in settling up some business affairs in this vicinity before returning to the far west which he now considers his home. Johnstown NY Daily Republican, Friday, November 13, 1891]; [Gloversville, NY Keystone Hotel Fire, Dec 1909 - Fire Guards Die in Fire - Watched Hotel Ruins All Night and Were Burned in New Blaze - Gloversville, N. Y., Dec. 22.---Following the burning of the Keystone Hotel late yesterday afternoon three lives were lost in a fire which destroyed the Keystone stables late this afternoon. The dead are: Abram Fonda, janitor of the hotel, aged 70; John O'Brien, a mason, aged 43, and William Stephens, a mason, 47 years old. These men had remained up all night guarding the ruins of the hotel, and about noon to-day went to the stables, where there were sleeping rooms, and went to bed. The building was discovered to be in flames at 3:30 o'clock, and after the fire had been extinguished the bodies were found. Of the victims of Wednesday's fatality, the most widely known was Abram Fonda. He was a man about 70 years of age and for a long time had been a familiar figure about the streets of Gloversvllle. For several years he has been janitor at the Keystone Hotel and by his affable disposition was on the most friendly terms with all patrons of that hostelry. He was widely known throughout the Mohawk Valley, being a member of the original Fonda family which settled in the neighborhood of the village which now bears that name.
